Viirut

Viirut is a city-state in the fictional world of Eldara, located on the Viirian Archipelago off the eastern coast of the continent of Lyria. The city sits at a natural harbor with a surrounding hilly hinterland and a ridge known locally as the Gate of Winds. The name Viirut derives from the Viiran language and is commonly interpreted as “shore of winds.”

Historically, Viirut developed as a maritime and trading center, linking inland settlements with distant ports across the archipelago. It emerged from a cluster of coastal towns that formed a loose federation in the medieval era and gradually adopted a more centralized administrative structure. In the modern period, Viirut established a constitutional framework featuring an elected city council and a mayor, balancing traditional civic customs with representative institutions.

The economy of Viirut rests on maritime trade, fish processing, shipbuilding, and growing sectors in tourism and geothermal energy derived from nearby hot springs.
