ViennaBozen

ViennaBozen is a collaborative project aimed at fostering cultural exchange and dialogue between the cities of Vienna, Austria, and Bozen (Bolzano), Italy. Located in the heart of the Alps, these two cities share a unique historical and linguistic connection due to their proximity and shared South Tyrolean heritage. The initiative seeks to bridge cultural, linguistic, and social divides through artistic, educational, and civic engagement programs.

The project was launched in 2019 as part of a broader effort to strengthen transnational cooperation in the Alpine region. ViennaBozen focuses on promoting multilingualism, particularly German and Italian, while also encouraging the preservation of Ladin, a Romance language spoken in parts of South Tyrol. Workshops, exhibitions, and public discussions are organized to explore themes such as migration, identity, and sustainable urban development. The project also collaborates with local artists, musicians, and writers to create cross-border cultural events.

One of the key aspects of ViennaBozen is its emphasis on youth engagement. Through school partnerships, internships, and youth exchanges, the initiative encourages young people to explore shared histories and contemporary challenges. The project operates under the belief that understanding cultural differences can lead to greater mutual respect and cooperation.

Funded by the European Union’s Interreg Alpine Space program, ViennaBozen is part of a larger network of initiatives promoting regional cooperation in the Alpine arc. While the project is based in Vienna and Bozen, its impact extends to other cities in the Alpine region, fostering a sense of shared identity and collaboration. By promoting dialogue and exchange, ViennaBozen contributes to a more interconnected and culturally rich European landscape.
