Viduras

Viduras is a prominent character in the Hindu epic Mahabharata. He is known for his wisdom, righteousness, and foresight. Viduras is the half-brother of Dhritarashtra and Pandu, the kings of Hastinapur, and the uncle of both the Kauravas and the Pandavas. He is the son of Vyasa and a maidservant named Parashari.

Throughout the epic, Viduras often serves as a voice of reason and morality, attempting to guide the actions of the Kuru elders and princes. He is highly respected for his unbiased counsel and his deep understanding of dharma, or righteous conduct. His advice, however, is not always heeded, particularly by Duryodhana, who often dismisses Viduras's warnings.

One of the most significant roles Viduras plays is in the dice game where the Pandavas lose their kingdom and are forced into exile. Viduras strongly opposed the game, recognizing it as a unjust and destructive event. He is also known for his teachings on ethics and governance, often delivered in the form of aphorisms and advice, which are compiled in the Vidura Niti. This section of the Mahabharata is considered a significant text on practical wisdom and moral philosophy. Viduras's unwavering commitment to justice and truth makes him a pivotal figure in the moral fabric of the Mahabharata.
