Videodisplay

Videodisplay refers to any electronic device or surface used to present visual information generated by a video signal. This broad category encompasses a wide range of technologies and form factors, from the earliest cathode ray tube (CRT) televisions to modern flat-panel displays like LCD, LED, OLED, and plasma screens. The primary function of a videodisplay is to convert an electrical video signal into a visible image that viewers can interpret.

The core components of most videodisplays include a screen or panel, a backlight (in some technologies), and a control system that interprets the video signal and drives the display elements. Different display technologies employ various methods to create the image. CRTs used electron beams to excite phosphors on a glass screen, while modern flat-panel displays use liquid crystals, light-emitting diodes, or organic light-emitting diodes to control individual pixels.
