Vexillology is the study of flags. A vexillologist is someone who researches and analyzes flags, including their history, symbolism, usage, and design. The field covers national, subnational, municipal, organizational, and ceremonial flags, as well as maritime ensigns and banners used in state and civic contexts. Vexillologists may catalog flags, study their evolution, document flag laws and etiquette, and explore how flags are adopted and displayed across cultures.
