Vesiympäristöt are habitats in which aquatic organisms live and interact within bodies of water. Freshwater environments—such as rivers, lakes, ponds and wetlands—characteristically have low salinity and provide habitats for species adapted to variable flow regimes and water chemistry. Brackish waters, found in estuaries where fresh and saltwater mix, support organisms that tolerate fluctuating salinity and temperature conditions.
