Vesikerrostuma

Vesikerrostuma, commonly known as bladder wrack or *Fucus vesiculosus*, is a species of brown algae belonging to the family Fucaceae. It is widely distributed along the rocky coastlines of the North Atlantic Ocean, including the shores of Europe, North America, and parts of the Arctic. This marine plant is characterized by its elongated, ribbon-like fronds that can grow up to 1 meter in length, often bearing small, bubble-like air bladders near the tips, which help the algae float near the water’s surface.

Bladder wrack plays a significant ecological role in coastal ecosystems. It provides habitat and shelter for various marine organisms, including small crustaceans, mollusks, and juvenile fish. The algae also contributes to nutrient cycling by absorbing excess nutrients, such as nitrogen and phosphorus, which can help mitigate eutrophication in some marine environments.
