Verwerter

Verwerter is a Dutch noun formed from the verb verwerken, meaning to process. It denotes a person or organization that carries out processing tasks on data, materials, information, or documents. In contemporary Dutch, verwerker is the more common term for such an actor, while verwerter appears less frequently and is often found in older texts, specialized jargon, or as a company name.

Usage and contexts vary with the field. In information technology or data handling, a verwerter would perform processing activities such as data entry, transformation, or analysis, depending on the contractual arrangement. In manufacturing or recycling, a verwerter can refer to an entity that processes raw materials into intermediate or finished products. In administrative or financial settings, the term can describe a party responsible for processing documents, invoices, or claims.

In legal and regulatory contexts, the preferred Dutch term for a party processing personal data on behalf of another is verwerker (processor). As a result, verwerter is generally understood as a less common variant, encountered primarily for historical reasons, in certain technical or industry-specific usages, or as a proper name.
