Verstrebungen
Verstrebungen (singular Verstrebung) are structural elements intended to increase stiffness and stability by carrying loads primarily in tension or compression. The term comes from verstärken, meaning to strengthen. In engineering practice they form bracing systems that reduce lateral displacement and redistribute forces within frames, trusses, shells, or façades.
Common forms include diagonal braces within frames, struts that take compression, and ties that carry tension.
Applications: tall buildings and towers employ Verstrebungen to resist wind and seismic loads; bridges, cranes, ships,
Design considerations include material choice, cross-section, effective length, joint behavior, and fatigue or corrosion. The goal
