Versäumnisurteils
Versäumnisurteil is a term used in German civil procedure for a judgment that is issued when the defendant fails to appear or to plead within the fixed time after proper service of the claim. It is governed by the Zivilprozessordnung (ZPO) and is intended to allow the court to progress a case where one party does not participate. A Versäumnisurteil generally concerns the claims brought by the plaintiff and is based on the written submissions and attached documents, rather than a full oral examination of the facts.
