Vermittlungsmodelle, often translated as mediation models or intermediation models, are frameworks used to understand the mechanisms or processes through which an independent variable influences a dependent variable. Instead of a direct causal link, these models propose that the effect of X on Y is transmitted through an intermediary variable, often called a mediator (M). The mediator acts as a bridge, explaining how and why the independent variable has its effect.
