Vermenek

Vermenek is a fictional town in the northern region of Veridia, a setting used in contemporary speculative fiction. It is a small administrative commune known for its historic mills and riverside landscapes.

The town sits along the Vermen River at roughly 120 meters above sea level, with a temperate climate and a landscape of river plains, mixed forests, and gentle hills. The Vermen Gorge to the north forms a scenic backdrop.

Evidence of settlement dates to the 12th century, with the first mills established by the Hollen family in the late medieval period. Vermenek developed as a trading stop linking grain, timber, and crafts to larger towns. In the 19th century, steam-powered mills expanded industry; later, tourism grew.

Today Vermenek’s economy centers on crafts, agro-tourism, and small manufacturing, with a weekly market and a cooperative of artisans. Local products include woodwork, textiles, and farmstead foods.

Administratively, Vermenek is a commune governed by a mayor and a nine-member council. It belongs to the Veridian Union, a regional body coordinating infrastructure and planning.

Landmarks include the Old Mill complex, the Riverside Market, and the ruins of St. Anselm Cathedral. The annual Harvest Festival features traditional music, crafts, and seasonal produce.

As of 2021, the population stands around 4,000 residents. Vermenek is linked by regional roads and a nearby rail line; local buses connect neighborhoods and nearby towns.
