Verkiesing

Verkiesing is a process associated with the sale of goods in the Dutch auction system. It typically occurs when a deceased vendor leaves behind unsold goods with provisions left in place for the sale of the items in question. In many local auctions, contracts often come with stipulations that require vendors to proclaim verbally their intentions to carry out the wishes of their estate, thus facilitating the selling of these items usually by a spouse or family of the deceased person.

The process of verkiesing itself can be carried out verbally by the person authorized by the deceased person's estate, who makes it clear that the vendor intends to sell the property. It can take place at the local auction site and the final transaction proceeds typically through the normal process established at the site where all parties adhere to the rules and codes of conduct in place.

The term can be found in Dutch estate sales, where the phrase is translated into "designation" in English. In this context, verkiesing refers to the formal expression made by an authorized family member that their deceased relative wishes certain goods to be sold from a remainder estate existing at the time of the estate holder's death.

The purpose of vykiesing is to make the concurrent process known to everyone involved in the sale of the specific goods left after the vendor's passing. It is essential that the verbal contract is acknowledged and followed strictly to ensure the sales process can proceed without any objections from the other parties present.
