Contents usually include indicators such as traffic volumes, congestion levels, accident statistics (including injuries and fatalities), modal split, public transport ridership, infrastructure stock and investment, and environmental aspects like emissions and noise. They may also present policy measures, safety programs and their assessed effects, as well as forecasts and scenarios.

Methodology sources: Verkehrsberichte rely on official statistics (police accident data, licensing and vehicle registration), traffic counts, travel surveys, and increasingly GPS, mobile sensor data and administrative records. They typically provide methodological notes, limitations and data quality assessments.

Frequency and format: reports are commonly published annually or biennially, sometimes with regional or urban supplements. They may include executive summaries, data tables, maps and dashboards to facilitate interpretation and comparison.
