Verenpuhdistusvälineet

Verenpuhdistusvälineet, known in English as blood purification devices or hemofiltration/dialysis equipment, are medical instruments used to remove waste products and excess fluid from the blood when the kidneys are unable to perform this function adequately. These devices are essential for individuals suffering from kidney failure, also known as renal failure.

The most common type of blood purification is hemodialysis. During hemodialysis, blood is pumped from the patient's body through an artificial kidney, or dialyzer. This dialyzer contains a semipermeable membrane that allows waste products like urea and creatinine, as well as excess electrolytes and water, to pass from the blood into a dialysis fluid. Clean blood is then returned to the body.

Another method is peritoneal dialysis, which uses the patient's own abdominal lining (peritoneum) as the filter. Dialysis fluid is introduced into the abdominal cavity, and waste products and excess fluid diffuse from the blood vessels in the peritoneum into the dialysis fluid. The fluid is then drained and replaced.

Hemofiltration is another technique that uses a filter and pressure gradients to remove fluid and solutes from the blood. It can be used alone or in combination with dialysis.

These devices are typically operated by trained medical professionals in a hospital or dialysis center, although some patients may perform peritoneal dialysis at home.
