Verbiühendid

Verbiühendid, also known as phrasal verbs in English, are a common feature in the Estonian language. Unlike English phrasal verbs, Estonian verbiühendid are not always fixed expressions and can sometimes be separated by other words. For example, "tulema" (to come) and "sisse" (in) can form the verbiühend "tulema sisse" (to come in), but the preposition "sisse" can be separated by other words, such as "tulema koju sisse" (to come home in).

Verbiühendid are often used to express specific actions or movements, and they can change the meaning of the verb they are attached to. For example, "lähema" (to go) combined with "minema" (away) forms the verbiühend "lähema minema" (to leave). In this case, the verb "lähema" (to go) has a different meaning when combined with "minema" (away) than it does when used alone.
