Verbenes is a common name used to refer to vervain plants, especially those in the Verbena genus of the Verbenaceae family. The term appears in various languages to describe herbaceous flowering plants that include the garden vervain (Verbena × hybrida) and several wild species such as Verbena officinalis. Collectively, verbenes are valued for their long-lasting blooms and ornamental appeal as annuals in temperate gardens.

Description and taxonomy: Verbenes are typically herbaceous plants ranging from compact to bushy forms.
