Ventilparametern, often translated as ventilation parameters, refers to the set of adjustable settings that control the operation of a mechanical ventilator. These parameters are crucial for providing adequate and safe artificial respiration to patients who are unable to breathe effectively on their own. The specific parameters chosen depend on the patient's condition, size, and respiratory needs.

Key ventilparametern include tidal volume, which is the amount of air inhaled or exhaled during a normal breath. Respiratory rate, or the number of breaths per minute, is another vital parameter. Inspiratory time, the duration of each inhalation, and expiratory time, the duration of each exhalation, are also important for synchronizing with the patient's natural breathing pattern.

Pressure support is a mode where the ventilator provides a set pressure during inspiration to assist the patient's own efforts. Positive end-expiratory pressure (PEEP) is the pressure maintained in the lungs at the end of exhalation, which helps keep alveoli open and improves oxygenation. FiO2, the fraction of inspired oxygen, determines the concentration of oxygen delivered to the patient.

Other ventilparametern may include flow rate, which dictates how quickly air is delivered, and trigger sensitivity, which determines how easily the patient can initiate a breath. Alarm limits are also considered ventilparametern, setting thresholds for parameters like pressure and volume to alert medical staff to potential issues.
