Ventilaatorsüsteemi, often translated as ventilation system, refers to the network of components designed to exchange or replace air in a space. This is crucial for maintaining indoor air quality, controlling temperature, and managing humidity. In its simplest form, a ventilation system can be natural, relying on passive air movement through openings like windows and doors. However, more complex mechanical ventilation systems actively use fans and ductwork to control airflow.

Mechanical ventilation systems are broadly categorized into supply, exhaust, and balanced types. Supply systems introduce fresh outdoor air into a building, often under positive pressure. Exhaust systems remove stale indoor air, creating negative pressure. Balanced systems use both supply and exhaust fans to ensure a neutral pressure and often incorporate heat recovery ventilators (HRVs) or energy recovery ventilators (ERVs) to pre-condition incoming fresh air using the energy from outgoing stale air.

The components of a mechanical ventilation system typically include fans, ductwork, air filters, dampers, and controls. Air filters are essential for removing particulate matter, allergens, and pollutants from both incoming and outgoing air. Dampers are used to regulate airflow volume, and sophisticated control systems allow for adjustments based on occupancy, CO2 levels, or user preferences. Proper design and maintenance of a ventilation system are vital for optimal performance and occupant health and comfort.
