Venoplasty
Venoplasty is a medical procedure used to widen narrowed or blocked veins. It is a type of angioplasty specifically performed on veins. The procedure is typically done using a minimally invasive technique involving a catheter. A thin, flexible tube called a catheter is inserted into a vein, usually in the groin or arm. This catheter is guided under imaging guidance to the site of the venous narrowing. Once in position, a small balloon at the tip of the catheter is inflated. This inflation expands the vein from the inside, pushing back the narrowed walls and restoring a wider passage for blood flow.
Venoplasty is commonly used to treat conditions like chronic cerebrospinal venous insufficiency (CCSVI), a controversial condition
