Vellmar

Vellmar is a town located in the district of Kassel, in northern Hesse, Germany. It lies a few kilometers north of the city of Kassel, along the river Ahne. Historically, Vellmar developed from several smaller agricultural villages that were gradually consolidated. Its administrative formation into a single municipality occurred in the mid-1960s, bringing together the former independent communities of Vellmar, Niedervellmar, Obervellmar, and Frommershausen.

The town has a mixed character, with residential areas serving the nearby urban center of Kassel, as well as some remaining agricultural land and light industrial zones. Vellmar is connected to Kassel and the wider region by public transport, including tram and bus lines. The landscape around Vellmar is characterized by rolling hills and green spaces, offering opportunities for recreation. Notable landmarks include the Ahnepark, a large public park with recreational facilities, and several churches dating back to different periods. The town's economy is influenced by its proximity to Kassel, with many residents commuting to work in the larger city. Vellmar's administrative structure includes these former villages, each retaining some of its distinct identity within the larger town.
