Veljet

Veljet is a Finnish rock band formed in Helsinki in 1981. Known for their energetic style and distinctive blend of punk rock, new wave, and alternative influences, Veljet gained prominence in the Finnish music scene during the 1980s. The band’s lineup originally consisted of Ismo Alanko (vocals, guitar), Jukka Rechardt (guitar), Jouko Lehtola (bass), and Alf Forsman (drums).

Veljet’s music is characterized by its raw sound, intense rhythm, and innovative use of improvisation in live performances. Their lyrics often explore themes of rebellion, existentialism, and social critique, reflecting the confrontational spirit of their punk influences. Although they achieved significant underground success, Veljet maintained an independent approach to their music and production.

The band released several albums, including their debut "Veljet" (1984), which established their reputation, followed by notable records such as "L'Amour" (1985) and "Veljet & Enrique Iglesias" (1986). Their energetic performances and distinctive style made them a prominent fixture in Finland’s alternative music scene.

Veljet disbanded in 1993, with members pursuing different projects, most notably Ismo Alanko’s successful solo career. Despite their relatively brief active period, Veljet's influence on Finnish rock and alternative music remains significant. Their legacy is characterized by their bold experimentation, social commentary, and contribution to the development of Finnish alternative rock.

Today, Veljet is remembered as one of Finland's most influential and innovative bands from the 1980s, appreciated for their raw sound and cultural impact within the Finnish music landscape.
