Veeslahustuvast, also known as the *Veselice Dam* in Czech, is a hydroelectric power plant and dam located on the Vltava River in the Central Bohemian Region of the Czech Republic. The facility is situated near the town of Veselí nad Lužnicí, approximately 100 kilometers south of Prague. Completed in 1960, it serves as a key component of the Czech Republic’s hydropower infrastructure, contributing to electricity generation while also regulating water flow for flood control and irrigation.

The dam itself is an earth-fill structure with a concrete spillway, designed to manage water levels in the Vltava basin. It creates a reservoir known as the *Veselice Reservoir*, which stretches along the river for several kilometers. The hydroelectric plant operates using a combination of Francis turbines, generating around 100 megawatts of electricity under normal conditions. The facility is managed by ČEZ, the largest energy company in the Czech Republic, and plays a role in balancing the country’s energy supply.

In addition to its primary function as a power plant, the dam supports recreational activities. The reservoir offers opportunities for fishing, boating, and water sports, attracting both locals and tourists. The surrounding area also features hiking trails and scenic viewpoints, making it a popular destination for outdoor enthusiasts. Environmental considerations have been a focus in recent years, with efforts to maintain ecological balance in the reservoir and along the riverbanks.

The construction of the Veselice Dam was part of a broader post-war development plan in Czechoslovakia to harness the country’s water resources for energy and economic growth.
