Vatnahlaup
Vatnahlaup is an Icelandic term referring to a glacial outburst flood. These floods occur when large volumes of water, ice, or meltwater are suddenly released from beneath or within a glacier. The most common causes include the melting of ice dammed behind a volcanic eruption beneath the glacier, the collapse of ice dams formed by calving icebergs or debris, or the geothermal heating of the glacier base leading to subglacial lake drainage.
The release of water and ice can be rapid and catastrophic, leading to significant erosion and damage
