Varnja

Varnja is a small village located in Bezirk Burgas of Burgas Province, Bulgaria. The village is situated on the Black Sea coast, approximately 10 kilometers southeast of the city of Burgas.

Geography

Varnja is situated in a low-lying area, near the estuary of the Rezovo River. The terrain is generally flat, with the village's elevation ranging from 2 to 10 meters above sea level. The village is surrounded by agricultural land and forested areas, with the nearby protected area of Strandzha Nature Park.

Climate

Varnja has a humid subtropical climate, with mild winters and hot, humid summers. The annual average temperature is around 13°C, with temperatures often rising above 30°C in summer and dropping below 0°C in winter. The village receives an average annual rainfall of 642 millimeters, with most precipitation occurring between October and March.

History

Varnja has a long history, with archaeological finds suggesting human presence in the area dating back to the Neolithic period. During the Middle Ages, the village was an important center for salt production and trade. The village was also a key location for the production of mulberry wine and raisins, which were exported throughout the Ottoman Empire.

Today, Varnja is a small rural community with a population of around 500 people. The village is primarily engaged in agriculture, with many residents working as farmers or in related industries. The village is also known for its traditional architecture, with many of its houses and buildings preserved in their original form.
