Vaníta is a city-state on the western coast of the continent of Valora in the fictional world of Althaea. The name derives from the Vaeli language, meaning "harbor of voices."

The city sits at a natural harbor and is linked to a network of canals and quays that support a busy trade and fishing economy. The metropolitan area is home to about 320,000 residents, with a dense historic core and quieter outer districts.

Vaníta is a constitutional city-state governed by a unicameral council and an independently elected mayor who acts as head of government. The council has legislative authority, while a professional civil service manages administration.

The economy centers on maritime trade, shipbuilding, textiles, and services. The port handles freight and passengers, while a cultural quarter preserves music, theatre, and crafts. The Vanítan dialect of Vaeli is common alongside other regional languages.

Settled in the medieval period, Vaníta achieved de facto independence through treaties and alliances and later formed a maritime confederation. It remains influential in regional diplomacy and education, hosting the University of Vaníta, known for programs in ocean studies, engineering, and the humanities.
