Vannsug

Vannsug is a term used in Swedish and Norwegian that translates to "water suction." It denotes the process of drawing water from one place to another by creating negative pressure or by using mechanical devices such as pumps, siphons, or vacuum systems. In practical terms, vannsug describes any method in which water is moved through a conduit primarily by suction rather than by gravity alone.

Methods and technology: Suction is generated by pumps that are primed and create a reduced pressure at the intake, by siphoning where water flows over an obstacle due to gravity and atmospheric pressure, or by dedicated vacuum pumps in closed systems. The choice of method depends on the lift required, flow rate, pipe diameter, fluid properties, and whether the system is open or closed.

Applications: Vannsug is used in household tasks like removing spilled water, draining basements, filling or exchanging water in aquariums, irrigation, and in some firefighting and laboratory contexts where rapid removal or transfer of water is needed.

Safety and efficiency: Work should be performed with primed equipment to avoid airlocks, and pumps should be protected from running dry and from debris. Backflow prevention, appropriate outlet placement, and energy-conscious operation help reduce risks and environmental impact.
