Valgusvärvus

Valgusvärvus is a term used in optics and color science to describe the perceived color of an object or light source under a specific illuminant, especially when that illuminant differs from a standard or reference illuminant. It acknowledges that the color we see is not an inherent property of an object but rather a result of the interaction between the object's surface, the light illuminating it, and the observer's visual system.

Different light sources have distinct spectral power distributions, meaning they emit different amounts of light at various wavelengths. When light with a particular spectral distribution strikes an object, the object reflects or transmits certain wavelengths more than others, creating its intrinsic color. However, the overall color sensation is then influenced by the spectral content of the illuminant itself. For example, an object that appears white under daylight might look yellowish under incandescent light or bluish under a cool white fluorescent lamp.
