Across sources, the Vairovs are depicted as riverine traders and craftworkers who emphasize communal decision making and reciprocity.

Etymology: The term Vairov is linked to the Vaire river, with the suffix -ov used to form group names in the Vairov language family. In some literature, older exonyms such as Vaido or Vaidar are recorded by neighboring communities.

Geography and settlements: The Vairovs traditionally cluster around river towns, notably Keshar, Lomar, and Sevra. Seasonal floods and fertile floodplains shape their villages, with house compounds built to permit easy movement of boats and goods between sites.
