Vaihtosähkögeneraattorit, or AC generators, are electrical machines that convert mechanical energy into alternating current electrical energy. This is achieved through the principle of electromagnetic induction, where a changing magnetic field induces an electromotive force (voltage) in a conductor. In a typical AC generator, a rotor, which is a rotating component, produces a magnetic field. This magnetic field can be created by permanent magnets or by electromagnets energized by a direct current. The stator, which is a stationary component, contains windings of wire.
