Vaihtosähköjärjestelmä, often abbreviated as "vaihtosähköjärjestelmä", refers to an alternating current electrical system. In this type of system, the direction of the electric current reverses periodically. This is in contrast to direct current (DC) systems, where the current flows in only one direction. Vaihtosähköjärjestelmä is the dominant form of electrical power distribution worldwide due to its ability to be efficiently transformed to different voltage levels.

The primary advantage of alternating current lies in its ease of voltage transformation using transformers.
