Vaahtomuovieristeitä, or foam insulation in English, refers to materials used to reduce heat transfer in buildings and other applications. These insulations are typically made from various types of plastic foams, such as polyurethane (PU), polystyrene (PS), or polyisocyanurate (PIR). They are popular due to their excellent thermal resistance and lightweight properties.

The manufacturing process involves creating a cellular structure within the plastic, trapping gases that act as insulators. This structure can be closed-cell, where individual cells are sealed, or open-cell, where cells are interconnected. Closed-cell foams generally offer higher insulation values and act as vapor barriers, while open-cell foams are more flexible and can absorb sound.

Vaahtomuovieristeitä are commonly used in building construction for walls, roofs, and floors. They can be applied as spray foam, rigid boards, or batts.
