Vaahdottumista, a Finnish term, describes the process of foaming or froth formation. This phenomenon occurs when a gas is dispersed in a liquid, creating a collection of bubbles. The stability of the foam depends on several factors, including the surface tension of the liquid, the presence of surfactants, and the viscosity of the liquid. Surfactants, molecules that lower surface tension, are particularly important in stabilizing foams by forming a film around the bubbles, preventing them from coalescing.

Antifoaming agents, or defoamers, are often added to suppress or prevent unwanted foam formation. These agents work by disrupting the surface tension of the bubbles, causing them to collapse.
