Värähtelymuodosta, meaning "vibration form" or "mode of vibration" in English, refers to a specific pattern of motion in which an object or system oscillates. When an object vibrates, it doesn't just move randomly; it tends to do so in distinct, reproducible ways. Each of these ways is a vibration mode. Think of a guitar string. When plucked, it doesn't just vibrate as a whole, but can also vibrate in halves, thirds, and so on, creating different notes. These are its vibration modes.

The concept is fundamental in physics, particularly in the study of waves, oscillations, and acoustics. Each mode has a characteristic frequency, known as the natural frequency or eigenfrequency. For a given object or system, there are typically multiple vibration modes, each associated with its own natural frequency.
