Välimuistiosuma

Välimuistiosuma, often translated as cache hit, refers to a state where requested data is found in a cache memory. Caches are small, fast memory components that store frequently accessed data from slower, larger memory sources, such as main memory (RAM) or disk storage. When a processor or program needs a piece of data, it first checks the cache.

If the data is present in the cache, it's called a välimuistiosuma. This results in a very quick retrieval of the data, as the cache is much faster than accessing the original data source. This speed advantage is the primary reason for using caches.

Conversely, if the requested data is not found in the cache, it's termed a välimuistiohitus or cache miss.
