Välimaastossa

Välimaastossa is a Finnish term that translates to "in between terrain" or "in-between landscape." It refers to transitional environments where two or more distinct ecosystems meet or overlap. These areas are characterized by a mixture of features and species from the bordering habitats, creating unique ecological conditions.

Examples of välimaastossa can be found where forests meet open fields, where freshwater sources interact with drier land, or along coastlines where land and sea converge. The specific characteristics of a välimaastossa depend on the nature of the ecosystems it connects. For instance, a forest-field edge might exhibit flora and fauna typical of both wooded areas and grasslands, such as deer browsing in clearings or birds nesting in the shrubbery at the border.
