Uudelleennäytteiden is a Finnish term that translates to "resampling" or "re-sampling" in English. It refers to the process of taking a sample from a dataset or signal and creating a new sample from it. This can be done in various contexts, including statistics, signal processing, and computer graphics.

In statistics, resampling techniques are often used to estimate the sampling distribution of a statistic or to derive robust estimates of parameters when the underlying distribution is unknown. Common resampling methods include bootstrapping and permutation testing. Bootstrapping involves repeatedly drawing samples with replacement from the original dataset to create multiple bootstrap samples, from which statistics are calculated. Permutation testing involves randomly rearranging the data to assess the significance of observed differences.

In signal processing, resampling is used to change the sampling rate of a discrete-time signal. This can be necessary when a signal needs to be processed by a system with a different sampling rate, or when a signal is to be stored or transmitted in a format with a different sampling rate. Upsampling increases the sampling rate, typically by inserting zeros between existing samples and then filtering. Downsampling decreases the sampling rate, usually by selecting every nth sample and then filtering to avoid aliasing.

In computer graphics, resampling can be applied to images or textures to change their resolution or to adapt them to different display sizes. This often involves interpolation techniques to estimate the values of new pixels based on existing ones.
