Uttarakhand is a state in northern India, established on November 9, 2000. It was formed from the northwestern part of Uttar Pradesh and is known as Devbhoomi, meaning "Land of the Gods," due to its numerous Hindu pilgrimage sites. The state is bordered by China to the north and Nepal to the east. It is divided into two divisions, Kumaon and Garhwal, with Dehradun serving as the winter capital and Gairsain as the summer capital.
