Ushbu

Ushbu is an Uzbek demonstrative determiner that means “this” or “this particular.” It is placed before a noun to specify the thing being referred to, and it is commonly used in formal or written Uzbek, including journalism, academic writing, and official documents.

In usage, ushbu functions similarly to other demonstratives by drawing attention to a specific item or topic in discourse. It tends to convey a slightly more formal or emphatic tone than the more everyday bu or shu. The word itself is invariable, and the following noun carries the usual inflection for number and case. For example: ushbu kitob (this book), ushbu mavzu (this topic), ushbu holatda (in this situation).

Ushbu is versatile in both concrete and abstract contexts. It can introduce documents, sections, or statements within a text, as in ushbu maqola yondashuvlarini ko‘rsatadi (this article shows approaches). While it is especially common in formal Uzbek, speakers may choose bu or shu in casual speech to convey immediacy or simplicity.
