Universaalsus

Universaalsus, in a broad sense, denotes the quality or condition of being universal. It is used to describe ideas, properties, or principles that apply across a wide range of cases, domains, or contexts. In everyday usage, it can refer to statements that hold for all members of a set or for all situations within a framework.

In philosophy, universals are discussed as entities that can be predicated of many particular things. Realist or Platonist theories argue that universals exist independently of particulars, while nominalist and conceptualist positions deny independent universals and instead explain universals as names or mental constructs. Classical debates center on how universal properties such as redness or goodness relate to individual objects.
