Umbar

Umbar is a fictional location within J.R.R. Tolkien's Middle-earth legendarium. It is a port city and a region situated on the southern coast of the continent. Historically, Umbar was a powerful kingdom, founded by the Númenóreans in exile. Over time, it fell under the influence of Sauron and became a stronghold of his servants, the Corsairs of Umbar.

The Corsairs were seafarers known for their raids and piracy, often posing a significant threat to the kingdoms of Gondor and Rohan. Umbar's strategic location made it a valuable asset for any power seeking to control the southern seas. Its people were often depicted as a mix of men, some of Númenórean descent, and others who had allied themselves with the forces of darkness.

Throughout the history of Middle-earth, Umbar was a frequent point of conflict. Gondor, in particular, often engaged in wars to reclaim or defend itself from the incursions of the Corsairs. Despite its often antagonistic role, Umbar also represented a historical connection to the once-great Númenórean civilization, albeit a corrupted one. The city itself was described as having imposing fortifications and a harbor capable of housing a large fleet.
