Ulmetum

The town is believed to have been established during the 1st century AD, as the Marcomanni began to interact with the Roman Empire. Ulmetum was likely a small settlement, situated near the River Main and the Roman road connecting the cities of Moguntiacum (Mainz) and Vadenium (Oberaden).

The town appears in the Antonine Itinerary, a Roman document listing cities and towns along important roads. The text mentions a stopping point called "Ulmadium" or "Ulmetum", which has led some historians to believe that the town was a significant stopover for travelers.
