UiO

The University of Oslo (Universitetet i Oslo, UiO) is Norway's oldest and largest public research university. It is located in Oslo and traces its origins to 1811, when it was established as the Royal Frederick's University (Det Kongelige Frederiks Universitet) to promote higher education in the Danish-Norwegian realm. In 1939 it adopted the name Universitetet i Oslo and is commonly referred to by its Norwegian acronym UiO.

UiO comprises multiple faculties covering disciplines from the humanities to the natural sciences, medicine, law, theology, social sciences, and education. The university operates across several campuses in Oslo, with the Blindern campus serving as a major center for science and humanities research, alongside other campus sites that host different faculties. It offers degree programs at bachelor's, master's, and doctoral levels and conducts a broad array of research activities through institutes, centers, and affiliated hospitals and museums.

The university plays a central role in Norwegian research and higher education, with collaborations at national and international levels and participation in student exchange programs. It maintains extensive library resources through the Universitetsbiblioteket and hosts a range of historic and contemporary research facilities, including specialized centers in fields such as energy, health, climate, and Arctic studies.
