Ugandan

Ugandan is the demonym for a person from Uganda, a country in East Africa, or an adjective relating to Uganda. The term is used to describe nationality, culture, or things associated with the country.

Uganda is a landlocked country bordered by South Sudan, Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo. It lies on the shores of Lake Victoria and is home to a diverse population of around 50 million people. The largest ethnic group is the Baganda, followed by the Banyankole, Basoga, Bakiga, Iteso, Langi, Acholi, Lugbara, and many others.

Official languages in Uganda are English and Swahili, with Luganda widely spoken as a lingua franca. Numerous other local languages are used across the country, reflecting its ethnic diversity.

Historically, the region was organized around powerful kingdoms such as Buganda, Bunyoro, Toro, and Busoga before colonial rule. Uganda gained independence from Britain in 1962. The post-independence era included periods of political instability and conflict, including the dictatorship of Idi Amin from 1971 to 1979. Since 1986, the country has been led by President Yoweri Museveni.

Culturally, Ugandan society comprises many traditions, music, dance, and crafts tied to regional and ethnic identities. The economy is diverse, with agriculture as a major sector, complemented by services and mining. The term Ugandan is used in national statistics, sports, government, and everyday reference to people and matters related to Uganda.
