The term is used to designate the annual festival that signals the transition from the growing season to harvest time and the renewal of social ties within the community.

Etymology and origins of ubrusem are not definitively settled. In the most widely cited accounts, the word is linked to local roots meaning binding or linking, reflecting the ceremony’s emphasis on social cohesion and reciprocal obligation.
