USBSDkort

USBSDkort is a storage device that combines a Secure Digital (SD) memory card with a USB interface, allowing the card to be plugged directly into a USB port without a separate reader. In Danish and Norwegian usage, it is often written as USB-SD-kort or USB SD-kort. The product appears as a USB mass storage device to the host computer, and data transfer is governed by standard USB and SD specifications.

Two main forms exist. The first is a true SD card with an integrated USB bridge, sold as a single unit. The second is an SD card placed inside a small USB housing that contains a bridge circuit; this is essentially a compact USB card reader that makes any SD card USB-compatible. In both cases, transfer speeds depend on the SD card’s speed class (SD, SDHC, SDXC) and the USB interface (USB 2.0, USB 3.0/3.1). Commonly, USB SD-kort supports FAT32 on smaller capacities and exFAT on larger ones, subject to OS compatibility.

Usage of USB SD-kort provides a convenient way to move data between cameras, tablets, and computers without a separate reader. Advantages include portability and straightforward plug-and-play operation. Limitations include potential fragility, reliance on the card’s health, and a price premium over standard SD-to-USB adapters.
