USBCtoUSBA is a term used to describe adapters and cables that connect USB-C hosts to USB-A peripherals. In practice it refers to devices that provide a USB-A interface on one end and a USB-C interface on the other, enabling older USB-A devices to work with newer USB-C equipment, or to supply USB-A ports on a USB-C host.

Two common forms exist: USB-C to USB-A adapters, which typically present a USB-A female receptacle on a small dongle with a USB-C male plug; and USB-C to USB-A cables, which have a USB-C male connector on one end and a USB-A plug on the other. The former is used to plug USB-A devices into a USB-C computer, hub, or power adapter, while the latter can function as a complete connector between a USB-C source and a USB-A device.

Performance and compatibility depend on the specific product. Many adapters support USB 2.0 data rates (up to 480 Mbps) and basic charging, while higher-end models may support USB 3.0/3.1 data rates and higher power delivery profiles when the USB-C host negotiates power. It is important to check the specification for data speed, charging current, and PD support, as not all adapters pass through USB Power Delivery or enable higher-wattage charging.

Safety and compatibility considerations include using certified adapters, avoiding counterfeit devices, and recognizing that some USB-C hosts or USB-A devices may require specific power or data requirements.
