UGTentsyymejä refers to UDP-glucuronosyltransferases in Finnish. These are a group of enzymes primarily found in the liver, but also in other tissues, that play a crucial role in the metabolism and detoxification of various substances within the body. UGTs catalyze the transfer of a glucuronic acid molecule from a donor molecule, UDP-glucuronic acid, to a substrate. This process, known as glucuronidation, generally increases the water solubility of the substrate, making it easier for the body to excrete through urine or bile.
