U+00C1, often written as Á, is the Unicode code point for the Latin Capital Letter A with Acute. It is a precomposed character in the Latin-1 Supplement block and is used in many languages to indicate a stressed syllable or a distinct vowel quality.

In Unicode, U+00C1 has the general category of uppercase letters and participates in case mapping with the lowercase equivalent U+00E1 (á). The character can be represented in UTF-8 as the two-byte sequence 0xC3 0x81, and in UTF-16 as 0x00C1. In HTML, it can be encoded as the named entity Á or as a numeric reference Á.

U+00C1 appears in numerous languages that use Latin scripts, including but not limited to Spanish, Portuguese, Icelandic, and Hungarian. In these languages, the acute accent on A helps distinguish meaning, pronunciation, or grammatical form. Because it is precomposed, it is commonly preferred in many text encodings, though it can also be produced by combining the base letter A with a combining acute accent (U+0301) in systems that do not support precomposed characters.

Typography and typography-related notes: the glyph Á is typically rendered with a single acute accent above the A. In case-mapping and normalization, the uppercase Á (U+00C1) maps to the lowercase á (U+00E1). In some fonts and rendering environments, proper display depends on font coverage of diacritic characters.
