Tüdfunkciók

Tüdfunkciók is a term used in dermatology to describe the series of biological processes that lead to the formation and resolution of acne lesions, commonly known as pimples. The word is derived from the Hungarian noun tüf, meaning “pimple,” and the suffix –funkciók, meaning “functions.” The concept encompasses several interconnected mechanisms: follicular hyperkeratinization, increased sebum production, colonization by Cutibacterium acnes (formerly Propionibacterium acnes), and the ensuing inflammatory response.

During follicular hyperkeratinization, the outer layer of the scrotum thickens, causing a blockage in the hair follicle. Simultaneously, sebaceous glands produce excess sebum, creating an anaerobic environment that favors the growth of C. acnes. The bacteria’s metabolism produces porphyrins and other bioactive substances that stimulate local immune cells, leading to inflammation. Inflammatory mediators such as cytokines and reactive oxygen species recruit neutrophils and macrophages, resulting in redness, swelling, and pain. The culmination of these events produces the visible pimple.

Treatment strategies target one or more of the tüdfunkciók: topical retinoids reduce hyperkeratinization; topical or oral antibiotics target bacterial proliferation; and systemic agents like isotretinoin modulate sebum production and inflammation. Understanding the underlying functions allows clinicians to tailor therapies to individual patients’ pathophysiology.
